Sanlorenzo SD96: the new yacht designed by Patricia Urquiola debuts at Cannes Yachting Festival 2019
As her first time working in the world of yachting, the designer is to give life to the interior of the new entry-level SD line. Exterior design by Zuccon International Project.
The ability to embrace new ideas, all the while remaining faithful to their heritage, the courage to dare to push beyond their limits when it comes to innovative solutions, have led Sanlorenzo to start a new and prestigious partnership: continuing along the same path that for years has linked it closely to the world of design, the company has entrusted Patricia Urquiola with the interior design of the new SD96 yacht.
Officially presented on the occasion of 2019 Cannes Yachting Festival, SD96 is the entry level model of Sanlorenzo's historic semi-displacement SD yacht line, a 28-meter-long model that will replace the SD92, another of the shipyard's success stories, which was launched in 2007 with 27units sold, showing and maintaining its natural evolution, that stylish hallmark that has always distinguished the yard.
Here too there is a historical legacy to respect, an image that has grown and been consolidated over time, which has been the main motivator in defining the design of the external lines of this lineup of boats, signed by the Zuccon International Project, whose recent collaboration with the shipyard has already kick started numerous prestigious projects, in which tradition and history are indispensable aspects.
This objective has been pursued without ever losing sight of the space-volume balance of all that contributes to harmonizing the proportions, and at the same time respecting a deeply rooted, essential Sanlorenzo image that adds strength, solidity and continuity to the yard's illustrious history.
The layout of the SD96 comes from the design concept of Philippe Briand, combined with the already broad experience and tradition of engineering at Sanlorenzo. The water lines were checked at the Marin naval tank in Holland, showing the to boat to have particularly good performance for a 28 m displacement hull. The hull design of the SD96 allows you to navigate at many speeds: from 10-knot navigation that maximizes fuel economy to a cruising speed of 15 knots, up to the maximum speed of 20 knots, making this a truly exclusive 28 m displacement yacht. This exceptional performance is possible thanks to the hull design, which has a very sharp profile and vertical bow; the shape of the sides meant the internal volumes were unaffected, and they are beautifully integrated with the design of the external lines.
Reconfirming its deep connection with the world of design, Sanlorenzo has entrusted Patricia Urquiola with the interior design of the new SD96 yacht.
Best in its field, Sanlorenzo has in fact involved such noteworthy names as Dordoni Architetti, Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Piero Lissoni (Art Director of the company since 2018), in the interior design of yachts, thanks to which it has added new visions allowing it to rethink the concept of space on board, an established asset of Sanlorenzo, through innovations and new stylistic features.
“I chose Patricia because I wanted to add a more feminine touch to the interiors in Sanlorenzo yachts, something which until now had been foreign to the nautical world. And today she is the most sought-after woman in global design thanks to her ability to combine beauty and comfort. All done with a touch of irony and almost poetic sensitivity, with love for all that is glocal and a great respect for the hard work of the artisans." Massimo Perotti, Chairman Sanlorenzo
In bringing her vision on board, Patricia Urquiola laid out the interior of the SD96 with transformability taking centre stage-making for a boat capable of evolving and continuously adapting to the needs of those who live on it.
A flowing space in which the distinctive style of the Spanish architect and designer blossoms and blooms, combining a minimalist approach with a mix of carefully selected materials that summon forth thoughts of the sea.

Thanks to the vision of Mr. Massimo Perotti, Chairman of the company, Sanlorenzo once again innovates and rethinks nautical design. The search for new living sensations via the use of transformable spaces, all aimed at enriching the experience of owning the boat, was our motivation.
Alongside the new yacht, some of the most recent models of the Sanlorenzo fleet will also be on display:
- SL102A, the first asymmetric yacht that was launched at the last edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival;

A truly innovative boat, thanks to a layout and structures that have allowed Sanlorenzo to adopt new solutions designed to maximize the quality of life on board, while retaining its elegant external lines.
Among these, the Main Deck at the stern and the Beach Club on the Lower Deck certainly represent the most characteristic parts of the project. An admirable sign of design and layout is surely the double staircase that connects the pool area and lunch area at the Beach Club, complete with sauna, hammam, massage room and gym, au fil de l'eau. With the transom and open side platforms, the Beach Club covers an area of 78 square meters.
Also on display is the 52Steel, a 52-meter superyacht that combines the refined elegance and timeless lines of Sanlorenzo yachts, with crucial technical innovations such as the exclusive Beach Club / tender garage and the extensive use of glass on board.

SANLORENZO SX76 DEBUTS IN THE USA
As one of the main producers of yachts and superyachts worldwide, Sanlorenzo is landing overseas to present some of the new models of the fleet to the American market. From February 14th to 18th the shipyards will be among the protagonists of the Miami International Yacht Show 2019, the main nautical event in the USA, with the brand new SX76 crossover yacht.
After the extraordinary success of the SX88 with 19 units sold to date, Sanlorenzo thus officially debuts in Miami with SX76, the new born of SX line, launched on the occasion of Cannes Yachting Festival 2018: a proposal characterized by intelligent and unreleased, rational and practical solutions which are, as always, distinguished by an unmistakably Sanlorenzo style.
The concept which is the basis of the project once again starts from the company’s wish to present a completely innovative approach to the space on board the boat, an approach which studio Zuccon has interpreted for the exterior lines and Sanlorenzo for the interior spaces of the SX76 model.
This year, the company is also presenting itself at the boat show with a completely new stand designed by art director Piero Lissoni: a space designed in the name of the utmost elegance, lightness, and formal discretion according to the unmistakable project style of the designer and of Sanlorenzo, a true oasis of tranquility inspired by the industrial style of the 1960s through containers that recall the world of naval construction.
A happy and intelligent synthesis between the classic motor yacht with flying bridge and the recent and growing explorer model, the SX76 incorporates the total family feeling of the SX line, keeping all the style features of SX88:
- the availability of large open spaces and large windows that ensure an effective and optimal interior/exterior access.
- The perfect integration between aesthetics and functionality. The hull with a very seaworthy high bow, maintains the profile descending towards the stern that slims the whole mass and gives it a substantial appearance, also making the SX76 a vessel able to face any eventuality.
- The only wheelhouse located exclusively on the upper deck, the flying bridge, that maintains free the living room area at the bow on the main deck, which can therefore be dedicated to the dining room adjacent to the kitchen.
- The bow area of the main deck is fully equipped to offer a livable and relaxing area with a large sunbed, convertible into a very private and shaded dining area with awning.
The swimming platform at the stern, four steps lower compared to the main deck, that houses the tender, a jet-ski and other toys. Once freed, becomes also an extraordinary beach club of over 18 sqm.
Completing the company’s presentation at the show, the SL78, SL86, SL106 and SD112 yachts will also be displayed.
